Behind the Design: Our New Chevrolet Super Service Emblem Sign

Posted by Wes on Oct 26th 2026

Bold blue, bright yellow, and the familiar Chevrolet bowtie, our new Chevrolet Super Service Emblem Flat Steel Sign celebrates a memorable piece of automotive advertising history.

The design recalls an era when dealership service departments promoted the mechanics, maintenance, and repairs that kept America's cars and trucks moving.

THE HISTORY BEHIND SUPER SERVICE

Chevrolet's circular Super Service emblem appeared in dealership advertising as early as 1942. An advertisement for Douglas McKay Chevrolet in Salem, Oregon, paired the emblem with a message promoting dependable service, trained mechanics, quality materials, and reasonable service rates.

The advertisement also listed practical maintenance tasks, from tire rotation and lubrication to checking brakes, steering, and cooling systems. Super Service represented the work drivers relied on to keep their vehicles ready for the road.

That message continued after World War II. A 1946 Chevrolet dealership advertisement encouraged customers to keep their current cars in sound condition while waiting for delivery of new Chevrolets - a reminder of how closely vehicle ownership and regular maintenance were connected.

PORCELAIN, NEON, AND DETROIT SIGN MAKERS

Historical Super Service signs included porcelain examples, some fitted with neon tubing. Surviving signs bear the name Walker & Co., Detroit.

One auction listing documents a roughly 42-by-48-inch porcelain neon example marked with that manufacturer's name. These large dealership signs show how the Super Service emblem became part of the physical advertising landscape as well as newspaper advertising.

FROM DEALERSHIP ADVERTISING TO COLLECTIBLE HISTORY

Original Super Service signs continue to attract collectors of automotive advertising. Donley Auctions reported a $9,000 sale for a double-sided porcelain example made by Walker & Co. That is one documented result, rather than a standard value for every sign.

BRING THE CLASSIC LOOK HOME

Our Chevrolet Super Service Emblem Flat Steel Sign celebrates this automotive heritage with blue, yellow, and white artwork centered on the Chevrolet bowtie.

For a garage, workshop, or collection space, it brings a connection to generations of Chevrolet ownership and the service traditions that helped keep those vehicles on the road.
